The roar of the Loftus Versfeld crowd told the story of the Vodacom Bulls’ sensational 64-0 Carling Currie Cup win against the Hollywoodbets Sharks on Saturday.

The home team was in irrepressible form, playing with width and adventure as they produced 10 tries against the shell-shocked visitors.

Historically, this represents the biggest winning margin over the Sharks in the past 40-odd years, surpassing the 62-6 score in the 1991 Lion Cup final.

Despite playing no warm-up games, the Vodacom Bulls established a fluid early rhythm with power and an all-out attack hallmarks of this sensational win. The Sharks tried manfully, but they ran into dead-ends and blind alleyways all evening, courtesy of a stout defence.

The theme of the Bulls was evidently to cut loose and play with flair, something their electric backs did to great effect. With the forwards laying a muscular platform, they feasted with centre Chris Smit crashing over for a pair.

By halftime they were up 35-0, the game having wildly moved beyond the Sharks’ ambitions.

It was more of the same in an incredible second half as the Bulls put the hammer down. Ten tries flowed on a night when the team in blue played with verve and venom.

The forwards, with Man of the Match Jeandre Rudolph doing a fine rhino impression, never gave the Sharks an inch. Most impressive was how the Bulls kept their shape and control right until the conclusion.

Boeta Chamberlain, playing from the back, continued his rich vein of kicking form adding 14 points.
