Marcell Coetzee has given a resounding endorsement of Ruan Nortje’s appointment as the new Vodacom Bulls captain and believes the 24-year-old Springbok lock has exactly what it takes to lead the South African franchise in the Vodacom United Rugby Championship.

“He’s going to do a great job. I spoke to Ruan when it was announced. I think the team is in great hands. I’ve had him under my wing for a year now and we’re actually great friends. You can see he’s got a cool head as well which will come into play with high-pressure decisions. I back him all the way,” Coetzee said as soon as he heard the news in Japan where he’s been for the past month settling into his new rugby life with the Kobe Steelers.

“The club here is amazing and I’m looking forward to the season ahead. I’ve settled in very well. But I’m still supporting the guys in Pretoria all the way here from Japan and I’ll definitely follow their progress closely.”
