Hello, and welcome to what promises to be a memorable Vodacom United Rugby Championship double-header and Currie Cup derby, all in one-day, only at Loftus.
In a rugby first, in South Africa, Loftus Versfeld will host three premier franchise games, with the Vodacom Bulls in action across two competitions. For the first time in the Vodacom United Rugby Championship, South African clubs combine to host a two-in-one, outside of the known Judgement Day in Wales. Ofcourse, Loftus takes things to the next level and this weekend, we have added an extra game to make sure your rugby Saturday will be one to remember for many seasons to come.
There is plenty to play for, across the Vodacom URC and the Currie Cup.
What is at stake? glad you asked!
EMIRATES LIONS V ZEBRE PARMA
This is Zebre’s final chance to avoid going through the entire league season without winning a game. As for our noisy neighbours, the Emirates Lions, they will want to bounce back from last weekend’s dramatic home defeat to Leinster which ended their hopes of reaching the play-offs. This will be the opening game in a Vodacom URC double-header at Loftus.
VODACOM BULLS V LEINSTER RUGBY
Leinster has just one more hurdle to overcome to go through the entire league season unbeaten, but it’s going to be a sizeable one for Leo Cullen’s young team at the fortress. The Vodacom Bulls – currently lying in seventh place – will be going all out for the win as they look to qualify for the Champions Cup.
They may need to finish in the top six to do that, should either Benetton or the Scarlets win the Challenge Cup. Jake White’s troops [48pts, 7th] will no doubt be looking for a bonus point win as they set their sights on Connacht [49pts, 6th] and Munster [53pts, 5th] above them.
Where the Vodacom Bulls end up in the table will also determine where they travel to in the play-off quarter-finals on the weekend of May 6.
VODACOM BULLS V FIDELITY ADT LIONS
Two familiar foes, meet again, this time in a Currie Cup derby as the battle of the Jukskei will serve as the crescendo of the rugby festival at the capital. For the Vodacom Bulls, led by a young Reinhardt Ludwig, will be hoping to register their third consecutive victory in this campaign; looking to continue climbing up the table as they currently sit seventh with 13 points. They host the Lions who sit in fifth place with 14 points, as the competition reaches its halfway mark.
Of course, rugby isn’t the only on offer throughout the day. With a host of celebrated South African artists bringing on the vibe to a day for the entire family. We do hope that you will enjoy making the trip out, your support remains invaluable to what we do at Loftus.
