Vodacom Bulls backline player, Johan Goosen, has undergone a successful operation on his right shoulder to repair discomfort around his AC joint. This will see Goosen side-lined for up to six weeks, returning for the later stages of both the Vodacom United Rugby Championship and the Heineken Champions Cup.

Blue Bulls Company (BBco.) Director of Rugby, Jake White, said: “He had an AC joint problem and he went and got it scanned. On the recommendation of the surgeon, who said he [Goosen] needs to do it sooner rather than later,”

“After the surgery, the surgeon said he was glad he did it because his shoulder needed that timely intervention,”

“They’ve cleaned out his AC, so it is much better and he has no pain. They say around six weeks and then it is up to us. Hopefully, if we don’t use him for the away trip to Ulster and Toulouse, which is week five and six [from his operation], we will probably use him in the Currie Cup to give him some game time.

“Hopefully we can do well in all those competitions and he can get some game time” White concluded.

Everyone at the Vodacom Bulls wishes Johan well as he recovers from the surgery and looks forward to seeing him back running out in blue.
