Vodacom Bulls prop Khuta Mchunu predicts an exciting Pool 1 campaign as the Tshwane outfit continues with its Investec Champions Cup season.
Mchunu has only just arrived at Vodacom Bulls, making the switch from Hollwoodbets Sharks, but competing in EPCR’s elite competition last year has already given the prop an opportunity to develop his game.
Mchunu said: “Historically, the EPCR has always been the competition of champions. Your top teams in the world in each competition in Europe play against each other and whoever wins that can call themselves the best in the world.
“Every week we’re playing against internationals, the best players in the world so it really does raise your game and make you a better player.”
Mchunu knows that Saracens, with their slew of England internationals and big-name players, will represent a difficult challenge for the South African outfit. The London-based side have won three titles, the first in 2016, and Mchunu says he can’t wait to meet the challenge on the pitch.
“We will play against sides that are successful in this competition and other tournaments too, with plenty of international players on their roster,”
“Really, really good teams, but as successful as they are, they’re going to have to come to South Africa and deal with the elements.
“I think they’ll be shocked at the heat, the altitude. We’re looking forward to welcoming them and I can’t wait to meet them.”
The Vodacom Bulls play Lyon in round 2 – this weekend – before meeting up with Bristol Bears and Union Bordeaux in the new year.
