The Blue Bulls Company has learnt with sadness the passing away of Gert Cornelius Janse van Vuuren.

Gert who was affectionately known as Mac, 87, was the Chief Executive Officer of the organisation between 1982 and 1994, when the Vodacom Bulls (then Northern Transvaal) became a professional team. Notable successes in the development of talent, positioning of the franchise and lobbying for the establishment of a high-performance environment are just a few examples of the indelible mark he had for the years that would precede his time.

President, Willem Strauss said: “Mac was the CEO that helped establish what we have now come to appreciate as the Vodacom Bulls. His contributions over his 12-year tenure benefited not only the game of rugby in the highveld but the professionalisation of our environment, which remain invaluable,”

“We remain eternally grateful for his services and share with the Janse van Vuuren family in their grief.”

During his tenure, Gert was an instrumental guide to the establishment of the blueprint that helped the (then) amateur rugby setup which was known and appreciated for its success.

The club and the entire Vodacom Bulls family’s thoughts are with the Janse van Vuuren family and friends during this time of mourning.

May his soul rest in peace.
