The Vodacom Bulls under-19 side have been handed a walkover victory over the Valke in round 3 of the 2023 SA Rugby Under-19 Cup. The young herd receives a full house of points (which includes a bonus point) with Valke opting to pull out of the tie which was scheduled to be played at Loftus Versfeld on Saturday, 06 May 2023.
Head Coach, Edgar Marutlulle said his visitors pulling out was unfortunate but understood the reasons presented to them as his young chargers focus on the next match in 2 weeks’ time.
“We would have enjoyed to use the game to further the development of the players and the team as whole. Particularly the larger squad of players that haven’t played any competitive games this year. Having two consecutive weekends of no rugby is not all ideal in a short 5 team competition,”
“Regretfully some of the them won’t get another opportunity this campaign due the competitive nature of the under-19 Currie Cup,”
“Nevertheless we will do everything in our control to control what we can and prepare the players for the remaining fixtures in the league format before the semifinals and finals.”
Marutlulle’s herd have won two and lost one thus far in their campaign, and now will switch their attention to the upcoming battle against the Leopards in round 4 of the competition. The fixture is scheduled for the 20th of May at Olen Park, in Potchefstroom.
