The future of South African rugby will once again come alive at Loftus Versfeld as the OUTsurance Bulletjie Day returns on Saturday, bringing together thousands of young players, families and communities in what has become the world’s largest mini rugby festival.
More than 6000 boys and girls between the ages of six and eight will take to the field, backed by an estimated 22 000 proud parents and supporters, transforming the iconic venue into a vibrant carnival of grassroots rugby.
Delivered by the Blue Bulls Rugby Union (BBRU), Bulletjie Day represents the culmination of a year-long development programme that introduces young players to the game through schools, clubs and community initiatives across the Jacaranda region.
Beyond the numbers, the event is rooted in something deeper: the growth of the game at grassroots level and the shaping of future generations, both on and off the field.

“OUTsurance Bulletjie Day is far more than a rugby festival,” said Jaco Dames, GM, Blue Bulls Rugby Union. “It is an investment in the future of our game and the future of our communities. Every child who takes the field represents a dream, a family and a school that believes in the values of teamwork, respect and discipline that rugby teaches. At the Blue Bulls Rugby Union, we are committed to creating opportunities for every young player, regardless of their background, to experience the joy of the game and to see that a pathway exists from grassroots rugby to Loftus Versfeld and beyond.
“This year marks a historic milestone for Bulletjie Day as, for the first time ever, we welcome girls’ teams to participate in the festival. Their inclusion is a proud moment for the Blue Bulls Rugby Union and reflects our commitment to growing the women’s game from the grassroots level. We are excited to see more young girls embrace rugby and believe this is the beginning of a bright future for girls’ rugby in our region and in South Africa.
“With more than 30 township schools participating alongside schools from across our region, this event demonstrates the power of rugby to unite people, inspire hope and build stronger communities. Today we celebrate not only 6 000 young players, but the next generation of South African rugby, ensuring that every child, boy or girl, has the opportunity to dream big and one day wear the Blue Bulls jersey with pride.”
With more than 30 township schools participating, the programme also continues to expand access to rugby, opening doors for young athletes from diverse communities and strengthening the Vodacom Bulls’ connection to the next generation of fans.

The scale of the event is matched by its atmosphere. Across 12 mini-fields and multiple activity zones, the day unfolds as a full rugby spectacle – part festival, part family celebration – designed to immerse children in the spirit of the sport while bringing entire communities together.
As a partner of the initiative, OUTsurance plays a key role in supporting the continued growth and reach of the programme, aligning with a vision that extends beyond sponsorship into meaningful community impact.
Said Carl Louw, Chief Marketing Officer: OUTsurance: “For many of these kids, this is their first time playing in a stadium like Loftus. A moment they’ll never forget. Being part of something that creates those memories, while growing the game from the ground up, is what Bulletjie Day and OUTsurance is all about.”
From early morning kick-offs to a full day of matches across age groups, Bulletjie Day offers a first taste of the Loftus dream for thousands of young players, many of whom will lace up their boots on the same turf as their Vodacom Bulls heroes for the very first time.
It is, in every sense, a celebration: of rugby, of community, and of the pipeline that will shape the future of the game in South Africa.
