FNB UJ Young Guns got hit with their second ‘L’ of the season when they fell short in a spirited performance against Gauteng rivals FNB UP-Tuks Young Guns at the Johannesburg Stadium.
The game started at a frantic pace, as FNB UJ Young Guns scored a penalty courtesy of Tayne Rivas. FNB UJ Young Guns were feeling the pressure from their rivals, as they were playing deep within their tryline, as they tried to prevent the FNB Tuks attack.
FNB Tuks Young Guns found themselves level as their pressure yielded a penalty which was scored by Edmund Ludick.
The match was evenly contested and both sides weren’t letting up. However the pressure eventually saw the Orange Army jot down for a try after periods of phases. The try was scored by winger Siyanda Masego, and FNB UJ Young Guns went into halftime with a 8-3 lead.
FNB Tuks Young Guns were a completely a different side in the second half as they played with more vigor and verve, their momentum grew enormously and they would level the game thanks to a well worked team try scored by Timothy Allies. It was all happening in the second half with the side from Pretoria piling the pressure.
They were presented with a chance to take the lead, and Edmund Ludick made sure of that by scoring his second penalty to make it 11-8 towards the closing stages. FNB UP-Tuks Young Guns then put the game further away from the home side as Edmund Ludick scores his third penalty to make the game 14-8 with just five minutes remaining.
The match as a contest was over as that man again, Edmund Ludick scored his fourth penalty to put the game far from reach from FNB UJ Young Guns and the match ended at 17-8. It was a spirited performance from the home side, but the side from Pretoria were the better side.
