Ahead of their Vodacom United Rugby Championship clash against Glasgow Warriors tonight, the Vodacom Bulls took time out to deliver something special off the pitch – an afternoon of rugby, laughter, and inspiration for 50 local school children at Scotstoun Stadium.

As part of the VURC’s Communities United initiative, the Bulls embraced the opportunity to connect across hemispheres, bringing South African energy and warmth to the heart of Glasgow. Head coach Johan Ackermann led the session alongside marquee players Nama Xaba, Kurt-Lee Arendse, Willie le Roux, and others, putting the kids through their paces with drills, games, and plenty of high-fives.

The initiative aims to foster meaningful engagement between traveling teams and local communities, whether in the North or South. For the children, it was a chance to meet the stars they’ll see in action later tonight, and for the Bulls, a reminder of rugby’s power to unite beyond borders.

“This is what rugby’s all about,” said Ackermann. “It’s more than just the game, it’s about people, connection, and leaving something behind wherever we go.”

With smiles all around and Vodacom Bulls caps proudly worn by players and kids alike, the morning was a celebration of sport’s ability to inspire. As the Bulls prepare for battle under the lights, they’ve already scored big in the hearts of Glasgow’s next generation.

Said Xaba: “In rugby, the highs are very high and the lows are very low, but if you put in the hard work and do the right things constantly, it will happen for you. I’m from a very small town [Vryheid], which Mpilo Gumede also attended. We never got big names visiting, so being here at Scotstoun gives these kids a chace to meet their heroes.”
