The crowd can be heard chanting for their Vodacom Bulls heros to run out of the tunnel onto Loftus Versfeld and for many of the players excitedly waiting for the match to start, their dream of representing the Vodacom Bulls was realised as youngsters who started out as Bulletjie rugby players.
This is the legacy that Bulletjie rugby has created and the initiative culminates in the yearly Vodacom Bulletjie Day that welcomes thousands of boys and girls to Loftus Versfeld for a day of Bulletjie rugby where families, friends and the wider community come to support them in their numbers.
The 2019 edition marked the 23rd year of one of the biggest youth rugby festivals in the world and this year was no different as over 6000 enthusiastic children played the sport they love on a sunny and warm winter’s day on Saturday, 8 June 2019.
Dr Eugene Hare, CEO of the Blue Bulls Rugby Union, was inspired by the massive turnout on the day and thanked everyone who was involved in making this year’s Vodacom Bulletjie Day a special one.
“It is reassuring to see so many young players that play Bulletjie rugby as not only is it a fun and healthy way to play sport but it is also the first step for many professional players on their rugby journey.”
“I would like to thank our sponsor Vodacom, staff, family, friends, supporters and most importantly, the players who all made Vodacom Bulletjie Day 2019 a memorable day.”
